Description
WOW-IPITS – EIGHT ASMAT WOODCARVERS OF NEW GUINEA
by Adrian A. Gerbrands and published by Mouton in 1967. 192 page hardcover with only light wear to dust jacket. Housed in a protective archival Brodart cover.
This book is the result of eight months of
ethnolo-aesthetic research by the author in the village of Amanamkai on the Southwest coast of the former Dutch half of New Guinea, where the Asmat people live. Of the twenty-odd wow-ipits (woodcarvers) in Amanamkai, a village of about 700 inhabitants, a selected eight are discussed.
